Checking Whether a KPI Is Being Monitored

When a KPI is being monitored, you can view its chart in the KPI charts. For more information about displaying KPIs, see the chapter Displaying KPIs.

It might happen that a KPI is present in CrystalBridge® Monitoring, but KPI values are not displayed in the KPI charts. This can be the case if you have not started the monitoring of a KPI yet.

Proceed as follows to resolve this issue:

Step 1:

Find the name of the monitoring profile under which the KPI is collected.

  1. Start transaction /DVD/MON and click Settings > Monitoring settings. Alternatively, you can start transaction /DVD/MON_CUST.

  2. Select the KPI in KPI definitions.

  3. Double-click Assigned profiles.

  4. In the Profile column, find the profile name.

NOTE If no monitoring profile name is assigned for the selected KPI, you must assign it manually. For more information about defining a profile for a KPI, see the chapter Defining Monitoring Profiles for KPIs

Step 2:

Check whether you started the monitoring of the KPI with the monitoring profile for a specific system.

  1. Return to the main screen and go to the Collector jobs tab.

  2. Find the collector job that is assigned to the monitoring profile and the system of the particular KPI.

  3. Check the collector job status. The KPI is being monitored for the system if the collector job has one of the following statuses:

  • Scheduled: The collector job is scheduled for periodical runs in the future.

  • Waiting: The collector job is waiting for free work processes.

  • Running: The collector job is currently running.

The KPI is not being monitored if the collector job was not created or if it has one of the following statuses:

  • Not running: The collector job is not scheduled for the monitoring of the KPI. The collector job has not been started or it was stopped manually. To start the collector job, proceed as described in the chapter Scheduling the Monitoring of KPIs

  • Terminated: The collector job was manually terminated and is not scheduled for the monitoring of the KPI. This status occurs when you manually cancel a background job in Background & Batch Jobs via transaction SM37

Step 3:

Display the monitored KPIs of a collector job

To check the list of collected KPIs for a scheduled collector job and right-click the collector job click Show monitored KPI(s).

The displayed pop-up shows the list of all collected KPIs for the selected collector job along with their descriptions and information on the KPI monitoring status.

This list displays all KPIs that are defined for the selected profile. The list of currently monitored KPIs by this collector job is shown first, after which the list of excluded KPIs is displayed. The following messages are possible for the KPI monitoring status:

  • KPI is currently monitored by this profile

  • Excluded: Monitoring area '&1' is not assigned to the system '&2'

  • Excluded: KPI is already monitored by profile '&1'

  • Excluded: KPI is not monitored by any profile
