Extracting Long Texts

Long texts in SAP are stored in the cluster table. Therefore, you need to execute a special extraction program to obtain long texts in transparent form.

Proceed as follows to extract long texts:

  1. Create a new run ID and activate it.

  2. Add all desired tables except STXL to the table pool.

  3. Optional: Execute the step Determine technical settings and enable hash calculation.

  4. Optional: Set a data filter if only the subset of the long texts is relevant.

  5. Execute the step Export the table structure (DD03L) and enable the option Add Long Text (STXL).

  6. In the FEX main menu, execute the steps Generation > Create sequences followed by the step Generation > Generate programs.

  7. Execute the data export for the table STXH only.

  8. Export the table STXL by clicking Special > Export long texts. Here, you can use the select options for filtering criteria:

    1. If the table STXL is too large, execute it in multiple jobs, for which different selection criteria (long text types) are used. These jobs must not overlap!

    2. If multiple jobs are executed, submit each one with a different task number and file name, so there are no overlaps.

    3. This process automatically calculates a hash for a specific task number and inserts a dummy entry to the table ZSCD_BW2_TASK. Do not execute such tasks via the monitor!

    4. The export program also creates a table pool file including both tables STXH and STXL.

  9. Export the object list for the table STXH.

  10. Export the calculated hashes and line counts.
