NLS Lookup Cockpit

When data is loaded into SAP BW, it can be accessed from customer developments, for example transformations, reports and function modules. In cases where data is partially archived and corresponding objects are accessed via SELECT(s) or other methods, these developments need to be adjusted in order to read both online data and archived data.

Using SAP standard functions, you can adjust the customer developments for SELECT(s) on DSO active tables (/BIC/A00). The SNP Outboard™ NLS Lookup Cockpit guides you through the translation process, i.e. adjusting SELECT statements so that they also read NLS data. This process includes the following steps:

  • Finding affected customer developments and checking if these developments can be translated.

  • Viewing the affected custom developments.

  • Translating the corresponding SELECT(s).

  • Searching for patterns to provide an enhanced search process.

The NLS Lookup Cockpit is used as a central point for the maintenance of lookups.

In the NLS Lookup Cockpit, you can make a subselection of objects for the display by using standard screen filtering or work with the data without any selection: In the latter case, all identified code objects with lookups are displayed.

NOTE The NLS Lookup tool is a powerful tool that decreases the effort required for translating relevant code objects. However, using the tool does not guarantee acceptable lookup performance after translation, e.g. after translations of SELECTs inside loops, translations of SELECTs inside field routines, etc. The lookup performance can be dependent on a number of factors: the DAP setup, how the data is archived, the storage being used, which NLS data is accessed, and how the NLS data is accessed. If you require additional support to fine-tune the performance of lookups, contact SNP Support for extended consulting.
