Migrating custom KPIs

The report for custom KPI migration enables the user to transfer custom defined KPI between two SAP systems, including custom assigned detail tables, monitoring profiles, alerts, or KPI groups (starting with name Z* or Y*).

It supports the following scenarios for data migration between two systems:

  • Export scenario: export selected data from the source SAP system. There are two options for how the data can be exported:

    • Export selected data into a ZIP file

    • Export selected data into transport request

  • Import scenario: imports data into the target SAP system

    • Importing customizations from a ZIP file

The user can run this report directly in CrystalBridge® Monitoring by using the function Migrate custom KPIs available in the Goto menu.

NOTE The required monitoring authorizations must be assigned to the current user, otherwise the function Migrate custom KPIs won't be displayed in this menu.

Export scenario

The exporting scenario enables users to export the selected data into a ZIP file or into a transport request. Proceed as follows to export the selected data for custom defined KPIs:

  1. Define the list of custom defined KPIs (starting with Z* or Y*).

  2. Optional: Click Select KPIs to display the selection tree with the list of custom defined KPIs.

  3. Select Options for selected KPIs (by default, all options are selected). These options specify which other related customizing values should be exported in addition for selected KPIs.

    • Export assigned detail tables: If checked, assigned detail tables for selected KPIs will be exported.

    • Export assigned input tables: If checked, dependent records defined in input tables will be exported for selected KPIs.

    • Export assigned profiles: If checked, the assigned monitoring profiles for selected KPIs will be exported.

    • Export assigned alerts: If checked, the alert definitions and thresholds assigned for selected KPIs will be exported.

    • Export assigned KPI groups: If checked, the assigned KPI groups for selected KPIs will be exported.

  4. Choose an option for how the selected data should be exported in Save data options.

    • Export into transport request: Creates the content for selected KPIs with all related customizing records into a transport request.

This content can then be moved by importing this transport request into the target SAP system.

    • Export into ZIP file: Selects all related data for selected KPIs and compresses it into a ZIP file.

The exported data can then be manually transferred into the target SAP system by using the importing functionality of this report.

  5. Execute the report (F8)

The report will generate either a ZIP file or a transport request that contains all data for selected custom defined KPIs with all related customizing records according to defined exporting options.

When the report is executed and finished, it provides an log output with some additional information about the processed records from specific database tables. If the data was exported successfully, a successful message with the created ZIP file name or release transport request (according to the selected export option) is displayed at the end of the report output.

If any unexpected errors occur during export functionality, the system will display an error message.

Import scenario

To import data from a previously released transport request, the user has to use the standard SAP TMS functionality. The importing scenario in this report enables the user to import only the previously exported data into a ZIP file into the target SAP system.

  1. Execute the function Import KPIs from ZIP in the application toolbar (CTRL+F1)

  • The import scenario opens.

  1. Enter the full path to the previously created the ZIP file with exported data for custom defined KPIs.

  2. Execute the export (F8) to start the importing data from the ZIP file.

NOTE If any data with the same primary key already exists in the customizing tables on the target system, a pop-up window with the options to overwrite or skip the data opens.

The report will extract and insert all data for selected custom defined KPIs with all related records into corresponding customizing tables.

When the report is executed and finished, it provides an log output with some additional information about the inserted records into specific database tables. In case of any unexpected errors occurred during the import functionality, you will see an error message within this log output of this report.
